Pecan Turnings

OK, folks!  What will be on this page are serving bowls, display bowls, and serving and display dishes from that fabulous wood called pecan.  Which by the way just happens to be the Texas State Tree.  Another variety of pecan bowls may be seen on the Pedestal Bowl page.  So similar to hickory, they are often confused.  The natural beauty of this wood is really something to behold, so take a look and don't be surprised if you are just slightly awed.

Nicely Spalted 9 1/2" Pecan Serving Bowl

9 1/4" Pecan Wood Serving Bowl

Nothing could be finer than a pecan wood bowl full of pecans!  And such a lovely looking pecan wood bowl it is.  The grain patterns and natural colors make pecan wood very sought after.  This wood is hard and very durable even under continuous usage as long as proper care is performed by the user.  And yes, lest we forget that the pecan tree is the State Tree of Texas!  This bowl is 9 ¼” in diameter and 2 ½” high.  The depth is 2” with a volume measuring a whopping ½ gallon!  The wood was sealed with food grade walnut oil and then buffed with some tripoli wood buffing compound.  This compound is based with carnauba wax.  Then the finishing was done with shellac with a bit of walnut oil based wax mixed in.  By using these materials and methods, the bowl has a nice hard long lasting natural finish.  Perfect sized for most dining tables as it is small in footprint yet good sized in volume.  31Jul21  BLP275  $52.50 Qualifies for free shipping within the United States.

Winged Pecan Wood Bowl

Simply put, this bowl will work absolutely great as a candy or nut bowl, or even as a catch all bowl.  Some folks might put some nice smelling potpouri in it as well.  Now myself would have it sitting on my desk full of something really tasty so that whenever someone tried to snitch one or two of them I could whack their knuckles!  The natural colors of pecan wood along with some spalting that Mamma Nature added to it really make this a classy piece.  There are some of the usual imperfections in the wood that I left alone.  The bowl is 9 ½” long and 6 ¼” wide.  The height is 2 ¾” and the depth comes to 2 ¼”.  The volume measured at 2 ½ cups.  The wood was sealed with food grade walnut oil that was allowed to soak in for 24 hours.  The finishing was done with walnut oil based wax which was handrubbed onto the wood and allowed to sit for 24 hours before being wiped down and then buffed.  This gives the bowl a more natural lustre to the wood.  You can also still feel some of the grain in the wood this way.  14Jul20  BLP257  $37.50  Qualifies for free shipping in the United States.

Amazingly Colorful Pecan Wood Bowl

Sometimes I have to admit that pecan wood can even amaze me with the colors it gives forth.  This bowl is certainly no exception to that.  The dark and medium brown colors mixed with some nice spalting really make this bowl stand out.  You will also find a handy lip for ease in handling. Though it certainly holds 4 cups of liquid I think this bowl is better suited as a display bowl for fruits and nuts than being used as a serving bowl.  But, hold on!  You can do that if you want.  After all the bowl was sealed with several coats of food grade walnut oil which basically saturated the wood overnight.  The finishing was done with shellac and with some walnut oil based wax for ease in spreading and penetration.  Using this mixture of ingredients gives the bowl a nice hard long lasting natural finish.  Without a doubt it is one of a kind.  3May20  BLP250  $47.50

Lovely Flared Pecan Wood Bowl

Now here is something that you don’t see everyday!  A pecan wood bowl with flared wings like this will look good on any table.  Fill it with your favorite treats whether it is fruits and nuts or candies.  Though not meant to be a serving bowl, it does hold 4 cups of liquid before it ran over the low side.  The minor cracks that you see were filled with clear glue and natural dust to keep things looking as close as possible to the way Mamma Nature wants them.  The length is 11 ½” with a width of 7 ¾”.  The high end is 4 ¼” and the low side is 3”.  The depth is 2”.  This bowl was a bit hazardous to turn with the flared wings.  But, it certainly was fun.  The wood was sealed with food grade walnut oil and then finished with a walnut oil/shellac mixture.  Using a combination like this gives the bowl a nice hard long lasting natural finish.  10Oct19  BLP228   $50.00  Free standard shipping within Continental United States only.  Other locations contact me with zip code for shipping costs.

Winged Pecan Nut Bowl

Everybody needs a bowl like this.  Just think how nice it will look sitting on your desk, dining table, or even sideboard.  Fill it up with your favorite nuts or candies.  You might even use it as a catch all bowl for keys and change.  Some folks even use them for putting those larger diameter candles in.  Makes no difference what you use it for, this little bowl is gonna look good doing it.  I did not measure the volume as it’s really not a serving bowl.  It is 7 ½” long and 4 ½” wide.  The highest point is 1 ¾” and the lowest is ¾”.  Sealed the wood with food grade walnut oil and then finished it with a walnut oil/shellac mixture.  This combination gives the bowl a nice hard long lasting natural finish.  14Jul19  BLP218  $32.50  Free Standard Shipping Within Continental United States.

Elegant Straightsided Pecan Bowl

Using the word elegant may not give this bowl it’s due.  After all it has lots of beautiful color naturally.  You will find some cracks that were sealed up with clear glue and coffee grounds.  Nothing like keeping things as natural as possible.  Pecan has some great looking grain patterns as well.  As far as capacity for this bowl it measured at one half gallon.  The outer diameter is 9 ¼” and the inner diameter is 7 ¼”.  The height comes to 3 ½” and the depth is just under 3”.  You have a nice lip for ease in handling the bowl.  The wood was sealed with food grade walnut oil and then finished with a mixture of walnut oil and shellac.  This gives the bowl a nice hard long lasting natural finish.  You will find a couple of defects in the wood on the inside that just would not sand totally smooth.  Enjoy this fantastic bowl!  28May19  BLP214  $42.50  Free standard shipping within Continental United States.
